Our Mentorship Program evolved from the success of the Wajukuu Maker Space, offering structured training to develop practical, marketable skills. We use Design Thinking methodologies to equip participants with the tools they need to create sustainable livelihoods.

Participants receive guidance from industry professionals while gaining access to our full range of Maker Space resources. The program combines technical skills with entrepreneurship and innovation training.

Our journey of empowerment

Cohort 1: January - June 2023

Our inaugural cohort focused on establishing core skills and building confidence among participants. We developed a curriculum that balanced technical training with creative development.

Eligibility Requirements

To join our mentorship program, you must meet the following criteria:

    Must be a youth aged 15-30 from a low-income family and underserved community, who is struggling with low personal or family income.

    Be physically active Teen or youth capable of standing for extended periods.

  • 3

    Have at least standard 6 (grade 6) primary level education.

    Able to read and write in Kiswahili or English (Kiswahili only is acceptable).

    Possess a National ID, or GOK proof of registration.

    Available full-time for 8-months program including:

    • 8 months of full-time classes, Monday to Friday at Wajukuu Training Centre-Lunga Lunga;
    • Arrive on time and absenteeism will not be allowed;
    • Remain 8 months of full-time workshops.

    Demonstrate leadership and resourcefulness in your life and community.

    Former makerspace graduates or local existing entrepreneurs can apply for incubator program only.

Everything you need to know about our program

Who is eligible to apply?

Our program is open to young adults from Mukuru and surrounding communities aged 18-30 who demonstrate creative potential and commitment to personal growth. No formal education requirements are needed, but basic literacy is recommended.

What is the cost of participation?

The program is completely free for all participants. There are no fees required to join the full 8-month program.

What is the time commitment?

The program runs for 32 weeks with training sessions five days per week from 9am to 3pm. Additional practice time in the maker space can be scheduled based on availability.

Do I need to bring my own materials or equipment?

All essential tools and materials for training purposes are provided. For personal projects, basic materials are included, but specialized or premium materials may need to be purchased separately.

Will I receive support after the program ends?

Yes! Graduates become part of our alumni network and continue to have access to the maker space at discounted rates. We also provide ongoing mentorship, networking opportunities, and help with connecting to potential clients or employers.
