What is a Maker Space?

Understanding our open workshop concept

The Wajukuu MakerSpace project, initiated by our renowned artist collective, provides young people in the Lunga Lunga slum in Nairobi with new perspectives and earning opportunities. The space is accessible to all residents for a small rent.

"A FabLab, short for Fabrication Laboratory, often referred to as a MakerSpace, is an open workshop. Its main goal is to provide private individuals and small businesses with access to modern manufacturing processes."

Wajukuu has adapted this concept to local conditions, making a valuable contribution to educational equity through open, barrier-free access to resources that would otherwise be prohibitively expensive for individuals or small businesses.

Our core principle is overcoming challenges together and sharing the knowledge we have acquired throughout the community.
