Shabu Mwangi is an artist living and working in Mukuru slum, where he has his studio. He entered the art world in 2003, driven by a need to share his perspective on society. For him, art is more than a medium—it is a window into life itself, revealing the overlooked and exposing the structures imposed by elites that shape human existence.
His work is both a reaction and an action, responding to the struggles of those living in the shadows of systemic failure. He explores themes of inequality, frustration, and the silence imposed on the marginalized. Through his art, he questions how inaction shapes who we become when our voices are ignored or muted.
Shabu examines human behavior, social divisions, and the forces that drive us away from a sense of oneness. He reflects on the ways we define ourselves—not by our circumstances, but by our willingness to embrace our true nature beyond imposed limitations. His work serves as a constant reminder to question existence, seeing this inquiry as the essence of life itself.
