Wajukuu

Wajukuu Kids club has been running since wajukuu started in 2004. The artist felt the gap as Kids would stay at the entrance of where they used to paint every day and this drove them to See the need to offer some classes to the kids who never stopped coming whenever the Artist would open their studio. In this situation, the Wajukuu Art is a source of hope. Through its activities, it promotes creativity and education and offers kids a safe space to be able to express themselves and be kids. We believe every child Needs cultural guidance and a space where one can express her/himself despite the surroundings. Through kid’s club sessions, we can witness growth in kids to become responsible and critical thinkers. It also helps to keep them away from vices such as dropping out of school, substance and drug abuse, crime and early pregnancies.

We provide painting, gardening, dancing, drumming among other social skills as a way to cherish and practice our cultural ways and heritage.

Scholarship

Over the years, Wajukuu art saw a challenge that children were unable to further their studies after completing a level in their education, stemming from financial constraints as parents or caregivers are not able to raise funds to cater for their education. This is because of unemployment or low income received, Wajukuu art project looks for scholarships for children and members of our art group that significantly contribute to their academic journey. By getting a scholarship the financial burden associated with their education is alleviated significantly and gives hope for a bright future. It is our pride to see members of Wajukuu arts and people from our community empowered through getting quality education. The goal is to support children in our community by ensuring they get quality education and knowledge, thereby strengthening and empowering them to be responsible  citizens. We have been able to get sponsorship for five kids who joined high school this year 2024, through Waugh McDonalds foundation. This is an initiative that we would want to have as we are passionate about seeing kids in our community thriving in their education.
