Inspired by shared artistic discussions on the “image in our heads” and its rebirth, this residency explores the journey of transforming ideas into tangible forms. Wajukuu Art Collective is offering a two-week residency and workshop for four female artists, each bringing unique approaches to creation—whether rooted in the conscious or subconscious. Together, they will engage with the theme of the “image in our heads,” examining how internal visions evolve into art that connects us collectively. A thought without a character is just an image, lacking intention or meaning. Yet, through creation, we give form to these images, allowing them to extend beyond our minds. When shared, they no longer exist solely in thought but take on a role in shaping perceptions, emotions, and reactions across time and space. Though sparked differently in each artist, these visions stem from a common source—vividly seen in the mind’s eye. The drive to create often emerges from questioning, doubting, or reflecting on emotions—whether in action, inaction, or the cracks left by experience. Art becomes a means of processing life, shaping our identities, and confronting uncertainty. In this space, we mend or stain our doubts, express silent experiences, and discover beauty within and beyond ourselves. Art is a continuous dialogue—between image and intention, emotion and expression, the subconscious and conscious. It is a way of embracing our essence, finding meaning, and celebrating freedom. By giving form to the “image in our heads,” we not only understand ourselves better but also contribute to the broader human experience. During this residency, the selected artists will have the opportunity to reflect on their creative purpose and endurance. They will experiment with materials, engage in research, and visit established female artists, studios, galleries, and cultural sites. In an industry often dominated by men, Wajukuu Art Collective seeks to provide a platform for these four female artists to break through and carve their space in the creative world.
Participants engage in workshops, discussions, and exhibitions, shaping a narrative that resonates within and beyond the artistic community.
